Over 70% of people with disabilities are not in the labour force. Many are excluded for no other reason than lack of social acceptance. Given that Nova Scotia is facing an aging population and dwindling labour force, businesses that eliminate employment barriers to accommodate persons with disabilities enjoy a competitive advantage. Business leaders tap this large and underutilized pool of people with disabilities who are ready and able to work. By registering with us as an employer partner you can be sure of a priority placement listing for job ready candidates.

The Lunenburg/Queens Action Council for People with Disabilities partners with the business community matching candidate skills with job positions to ensure the best possible fit. We also provide the information and support employers need to develop an accommodating workplace and ensure a seamless hiring experience. Our goal is the long term success of both candidate and employer. Where there are up-front costs to eliminating an employment barrier, the Lunenburg / Queens Action Council for People with Disabilities provides wage subsidies and advises on other funding sources.

Paul Snow, manager of the Atlantic Superstore in Bridgewater, has partnered with the Employment Assistance Office over the past ten years. Within this time he has interviewed and hired five of our clients for various positions and for some has utilized the benefits of the Opportunities Fund, Wage Subsidy program. Recent announcement that Mr. Snow was moving from his local managerial position to a national role prompted the presentation of a plaque, from our office, to honour his open-minded approach to employment equity.
