The Lunenburg / Queens Action Council for Persons with Disabilities enhances the employability of persons with disabilities in Lunenburg and Queens Counties. In fulfilling this mission we inevitably collect, use, disclose and retain personal information about registered clients who are using our services and prospective clients who may need our services. We also collect and use commercial information from suppliers contracted to provide services to us or our clients. Our policy is to protect the personal and commercial information entrusted to us by our clients and suppliers such that its collection, use, disclosure, retention, security, disposal and access meets regulatory requirements, industry best practices and quality service standards.

1. Collection, Use and Disclosure

1.1 General

We collect personal information volunteered to us by registered clients in order to provide employment assistance and disability support services.

We may collect and use personal information for the additional purposes of assessing prospective client needs, determining satisfaction levels or public opinions. Such information may be collected via surveys, interviews or other requests.

Information about you may be also be collected from other sources, such as public records and bodies, or private organizations.

Personal information is not shared with third parties without your understanding and signed consent. When personal information is shared with a third party, the third party is obligated by the LQACfPwD to protect your personal information according to similar standards.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from minors or persons with severe impairments who cannot legally represent themselves without first obtaining the consent of a parent, guardian or other legal representative.

1.2 Web Site

You can access our Web site home page and browse our site without disclosing personal data.

Our Web site does not enable our visitors to communicate with other visitors or to post data to be accessed by others.

Our Web site may link to external sites. Every effort is made to ensure external links point to trusted sources. It is the responsibility of each visitor to judge external sites on independent merit and not by association with the LQACfPwD.

We do not use cookies on our Web site.

We do not automatically log personal data such as name, phone numbers or e-mail addresses. We would only obtain this information if you send it by e-mail or if you access a secure portion of the site.

Prior to submitting personal data through our Web site, visitors are asked to agree to the terms and conditions governing information collection and use.

We use software programs that receive and record the Internet Protocol (IP) address of the computer that has contacted our web site. We make no attempt to link these addresses with the identity of individuals visiting our site.

2. Protection, Retention and Disposal

We have implemented security policies, procedures and technical measures to protect the personal information that we have under our control from:

  • Unauthorized access;
  • Improper use or disclosure;
  • Unauthorized modification;
  • Unlawful destruction; and
  • Accidental loss.

Employees, contractors and volunteers are obligated to respect the confidentiality of our clients' personal information by:

  • Signing a Declaration of Confidentiality
  • Receiving compulsory training respecting information security and privacy requirements

Personal information is retained for at least two years following the last use of the information.

Upon reaching final disposition, personal information is securely and permanently destroyed by shredding or erasing so as to prevent its reconstruction.

We will provide you with a readable copy of the personal information that we keep about you. Prior to releasing personal information we may require proof of your identity. Personal information is provided to you without charge.

You may challenge the information that we hold about you and, where appropriate, you may have your personal information:

  • Destroyed;
  • Rectified or amended; or
  • Completed
