David has worked very hard since graduating High School, both at the local Nova Scotia Community College, and with a Lunenburg Café. You see, David has a Learning challenge and although he is able to become proficient in most of the ambitions he chooses, he also needs more time. When our employer partner contacted us with indication that they were willing to give David a chance to practice his newly learned skills in their kitchen, we were happy to take part. Now, with assistance through the Opportunities Fund Wage Subsidy Program, David is working full-time with the employer, and the pressures of a busy kitchen, are not as great.

"Congratulations David!"

Kevin

Being actively involved in many of the organized skating programs and a keen fan of the local hockey teams, Kevin (pictured foreground) spent most of his winter days at the Queens Memorial Arena. Often he assisted the manager and staff with some of the operational duties required to efficiently run the rink so when our office was approached by another agency in the community with the request for a paid work experience, to further enhance Kevin's employment opportunities, it was the perfect fit. Kevin is now employed with funding provided through the Opportunities Fund, and is learning new and valuable employment skills in a job he loves.

“Congratulations Kevin!”

Carol

Being a recent graduate of the NSCC Office Information Technology program had qualified Carol for work in most office environments. The difficulty posed was that she had little work experience in this setting and her anxiety related barriers further complicated her job search. Through accessing a direct job referral with an employer partner of our office, and with an accompanying wage subsidy, Carol was able to secure fulltime employment in her area.

“Congratulations Carol.”

Anthony

Anthony has been a previous client and when he returned in 2005, he made a decision to return to school and was accepted in the new Forestry Course offered at the NSCC - Lunenburg Campus and he has found his passion, learning! He is enjoying his course and doing so well he is planning on taking Year 2 - Forestry Management. Anthony, it's a pleasure to be a part of your journey to a career you love and wish you success in your new role in the Forestry Industry.*

Ian

Ian initially came to our office for Career Decision Making assistance in 2005. He did his Labour Market Information and Research and found his barrier would not interfere with him becoming a long haul truck driver. His easy going personality, positive attitude and love of driving made this a wise choice for him. Upon completing his program he had a successful internship and went immediately to work with the same company! "Congratulations Ian!"*

Troy

Troy had been injured and unable to return to his job and also came to us for Career Decision Making. He made his decision to take the Law and Security course at the Truro NSCC campus and after doing a fantastic job in preparing his Return to Work Action Plan, went on to school in September 2005 and has excelled being tops in his class! His self confidence and professional demeanor will ensure his success in his new profession. Troy, we are happy we have been able to help you on your path to success.*

Dan

Daniel had been building boats for most of his adult life, for others. He had developed a wonderful talent for the finer aspects of the construction ideas and after having to leave the industry due to a physical injury, for a time, was eager to start back with his own business. With assistance through the opportunities fund, Daniel was able to receive an Entrepreneurial Income Supplement during the first year while his business was developing customers. Today he is selling his canoes to buyers as far away as Germany, and the demand is growing. "Well done Dan."
